Extra healthcare staff CMC, more reinforcements on the way

Local | By Correspondent January 21, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has been reinforced by 35 nurses from AMI through VWS and Dutch Caribbean Hospital Alliance. Spokesperson Germaine Gibbs confirmed.

Gibbs says more reinforcements are on the way. “As long as we are in a pandemic, we will need extra hands. Compared to other countries, we only have one hospital. That makes it difficult.”

The hospital is under great pressure due to a staff shortage and the high number of corona patients in intensive care. Earlier this month, the hospital reported that nearly two hundred healthcare workers were absent due to Covid-19, absenteeism, or quarantine. The CMC was forced to cancel the elective operations for the time being in order to guarantee responsible patient care.
