WILLEMSTAD - Fewer fireworks will be imported to Curaçao this year. Five of the seven importers have been licensed, but less than nine containers are likely being shipped.
In 2020, eighteen containers with fireworks were ordered for the celebration of the New Year. Only eight containers arrived on the island. Before the corona crisis, Curaçao imported an average of 21 containers with fireworks per year.
Also this year, the number of fireworks on Curaçao will be limited. Problems with sea transport from China and Covid-19 are reducing supply. Many fireworks remain in China because of the pandemic.
