Fewer students pass final exams

Local | By Correspondent June 16, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The number of students who passed the central exams this year is less than previous year. This is apparent from the success rates of the first period that the Ministry of Education announced on Wednesday.

Almost 2,000 students received their exam results on June 9. Fewer students passed at almost every level this year than last year. Only the HAVO students did slightly better this year, 68 percent of them passed this year and 65 percent in 2021. 70 percent of pre-university students (VWO) managed to obtain their diploma this year, compared to 74 percent last year.

At the VSBO, the results differ between the different level. 68 percent of VMBO students in the Theoretical Framework Oriented Learning Path (TKL) passed this year, which is only one percent different from last year. In the Practical Framework Oriented Learning Path (PKL) direction, 67 percent obtained their diploma, a difference of four percent compared to 2021. The difference is greatest at VSBO Practical Basic Learning Path (PBL). This year 69 percent of the students passed in this level, last year this was 82 percent.

The resits have already started and will last until June 24. The results of the second period will take place on 1 July. After the resits, the pass rates will be adjusted and will likely go up.
