WILLEMSTAD - The court has imposed a 15-year prison sentence for the murder of politician Almier Godett. The 39-year-old politician was shot dead during a heated argument at the beginning of March this year.
Godett was number four on the candidate list of the political party Trabou pa Korsou (TPK). He was shot dead by the convict two weeks before the election. Godett tried to mediate in a family feud involving his brother.
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) initially demanded eighteen years. The shooter, Michael M., was not only given a prison sentence, but also has to pay compensation of almost 50,000 guilders to Godett's family.
