Fire brigade sets ultimatum for minister of justice

Local | By Correspondent December 7, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The fire department has issued an ultimatum to Justice Minister Gilmar Pisas to come up with a solution for the 'no work no pay arrangement' that applies to some of the staff.

On November 5, the ABVO union met with Pisas and the Minister of Administration, Planning and Services Ornelio 'Kid' Martina. The fire brigade drew up a list of eleven points for attention that was presented to the Ministry of Justice. The firefighters had expected a 12.5 percent cut on their salary. Instead, the no work no pay scheme was introduced.

The union would receive more clarity about a solution to the problems by December 5 at the latest. The government did indeed send a letter to the ABVO last weekend, but it contained nothing concrete, the union indicated.

The fire brigade has given the minister until Thursday at five o’clock to come up with a plan of action. Otherwise, the firefighters will go to the union building on Friday and lay down their work.
