WILLEMSTAD — Unknown suspects stole a quantity of fireworks during a nighttime burglary at a licensed sales point in the Santa Rosa area between Saturday and Sunday, according to the Police Curaçao (KPC).
Police received a report shortly before 3:30 a.m. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a security guard who had been tied up by the perpetrators. The suspects then broke into a container and removed several boxes of fireworks before fleeing the area.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident and are calling on the public to report any information related to the illegal sale of fireworks. Tips can be provided by calling 917, or anonymously via the crime tip line at 108.
Police stressed that anyone who purchases fireworks originating from theft is committing a criminal offense and may face prosecution.
Fireworks sales points across Curaçao reopened last weekend and will remain open through December 31. Authorities say they are increasing vigilance during the sales period to prevent theft, illegal trade, and safety risks associated with unregulated fireworks.
