First monkeypox infection in Aruba confirmed

Local | By Correspondent August 23, 2022

ORANJESTAD - The first monkey pox patient has now also been confirmed in Aruba. The infected person is a resident who has not recently been abroad. This means that the contamination has taken place on the island. A second patient is currently being monitored, who may be infected.

Aruba will soon receive vaccines against this disease from the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). It is a limited number. These vaccines will be available for the risk groups. By far the most infections to date have occurred among men who have had sex, or some other form of intimate contact, with men.
