WILLEMSTAD - Burney "Nini" Fonseca said during the appeal of the Maximus case this week that he had nothing to do with the murder of former Member of Parliament and popular politician Helmin Wiels. He was sentenced to 26 years for this and is serving his sentence in a Dutch prison.
Fonseca was called to testify at the appeal in which former minister George Jamaloodin objects to the 28-year sentence imposed at first instance. Fonseca indicated that he knows the former minister, but has only had contact with him about sponsorship for sports activities in the Koraal Specht district.
Fonseca indicated during his testimony that the Public Prosecution Service has always refused to listen to him during interrogations about the murder. Nor to his statements that he was not involved in the murder of Helmwin Wiels in 2013. According to Foneca, he is an innocent man.
