Food card for the unemployed and welfare recipients

WILLEMSTAD - People who are on welfare and the long-term unemployed will receive a food card from the government. Minister of Social Development, Labor and Welfare Hensley Koeiman announced this during a recent daily briefing.

With this card, people can at least buy all products from the "makutu básiko" (basic basket). That is a list of basic and healthy necessities of life. The food card is worth 300 guilders per month for single unemployed people and 450 guilders for unemployed couples.

Someone with social assistance benefits receives 150 guilders. Single-parent families receive 300 guilders and families with children 450 guilders per month.
