WILLEMSTAD - It is not yet certain when Emmilou Capriles' credentials will be addressed in parliament. As is known, the Parliament meeting on Thursday was canceled due to a lack of quorum.

By not showing up for the meeting, the opposition wanted to prevent Capriles' credentials from being dealt with so that she could take up her seat as a new Member of Parliament for the coalition party PAR.

But according to President of Parliament Ana Maria Pauletta, that was not on the agenda. The next meeting of Parliament is scheduled for January 25. Then the credentials could be addressed, but it is not yet certain if that will happen. Jeser El Ayoubi of the PAR handed over his seat in Parliament this week, Capriles has to succeed him.

Last night, there was a message that went around on social media that contact must first be sought with former minister and former PAR member Marilyn Alcalá-Wallé. Capriles cannot be sworn in until Alcalá-Wallé definitively renounces her right to the seat.

Alcalá-Wallé will be the first to act according to the 2017 election list. But if she does not want to, she must first officially declare it.
