WILLEMSTAD - Former minister Lia Willems has passed away. She was one of the founders of Pueblo Soberano party with the murdered political leader Helmin Magno Wiels.
Willems was briefly minister in the Schotte cabinet at the Ministry of Administration, Planning and Services. There she had to resign both as a minister and as a member of Wiels’ party because she had taken her husband on a mission at the expense of the treasury. She had also appointed a friend as a policy officer.
Lia Willems moved to the Netherlands after she left politics. She was 71.
