Former political leader writes book

WILLEMSTAD - Former leader of the orange party FOL said that he will publish a book about the events on 30 May 1969. Coming Thursday the island will commemorate the 50th anniversary of this historic event.

On that day the employees of the Shell oil refinery went on strike. It got out of hands and a great part of downtown Punda and Otrabanda were burned down. Two people were killed, and dozens injured.

This event was an important turning point in the political, cultural and socio-economic relations on Curacao.
