Four arrested soldiers not prosecuted for drug possession in Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent August 29, 2022

ASSEN - Four soldiers of the airmobile brigade in Assen are not being prosecuted for alleged drug possession in Curaçao. This is reported by Het Dagblad van het Noorden.

The foursome were arrested in June 2021 by the Marechaussee on suspicion of drug use and possession of narcotics. The Ministry of Defense has a 'zero tolerance policy' with regard to drugs. This means that soldiers are also prosecuted if they have smaller quantities of drugs for their own use, the so-called user quantities.

Due to lack of evidence, the men will not be prosecuted by the Public Prosecution Service (OM). Fourteen other men are still under criminal investigation. The suspects were arrested on the basis of the telephone records of a dealer in Curaçao.

The four soldiers were suspended at the time because of the investigation. It is not known whether the foursome are back to work.
