WILLEMSTAD - Four civil servants of the Tax Collector’s Office have been suspended. According to the director of the office, they have channeled tax returns to other accounts.
Since 2016, transfers have been made automatically via a special system with which the remaining amount is transferred to a personal or business account. Irregularities were discovered in the same year. For example, money would have been transferred to the accounts of people who had died.
An investigation has been launched into these irregularities and the tax office does not rule out that there will be more employees placed on mandatory leave. The tax office will also file a complaint at the public prosecution.
