Four years prison for assault German tourists

Local | By Correspondent May 26, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Two men suspected of a violent assault on German tourists have been sentenced to four years in prison and 1-year probation. The third man of the robbery trio was sentenced by the judge to 3 months in prison.

The 19-year-old Margaritha and the 20-year-old Rimon blocked a car with tourists on the road in February this year and took the car under the threat of a firearm, as well as 400 guilders and a telephone. Due to the violent nature of the robbery, the judge charged them heavily. Because they owned the weapon, they got 4 years.

For the 20-year-old Der Meer, the court was a lot more lenient. The judge partly believed his statement that he actually did not want to participate in the robbery. He got off with 3 months in prison.

All three suspects had no criminal record and have already confessed to the robbery. One of them stated that he needed money for his education, the other only needed money for public transport to get to work.
