WILLEMSTAD – Fuel prices on Curaçao will be reduced as of Tuesday, with both gasoline and diesel becoming cheaper at the pump. Gasoline will fall from just over 1.91 guilders to approximately 1.87 guilders per liter, a decrease of more than four cents. Diesel prices will drop from about 1.65 guilders to slightly over 1.59 guilders per liter, a reduction of nearly six cents.
According to regulator RAC, the price adjustment is mainly the result of lower international purchase prices for fuel.
Electricity and water tariffs, however, will see modest increases as of February 1. For households in the first electricity tariff group, the price per kilowatt-hour will rise slightly from just over 53 cents to just under 54 cents. Consumers who use more than 350 kilowatt-hours will pay close to 69 cents per kilowatt-hour for excess consumption.
The increase in electricity tariffs is attributed to a mixed effect: while fuel costs for power generation declined somewhat, a correction related to December costs was higher, resulting in a net increase.
Water prices will also rise. In the first tariff group, the cost will increase to 8.04 guilders per thousand liters, nearly 13 cents more per cubic meter. Consumers who exceed 20 cubic meters of water usage will pay close to 17.10 guilders per thousand liters for additional consumption.
As with electricity, water tariffs are affected by lower energy costs for production combined with a higher correction for December, leading to a slight overall increase.
The changes mean that while motorists will benefit from lower fuel prices, households may see marginally higher monthly bills for electricity and water.
