WILLEMSTAD - The government of Curaçao must give the remaining right of leasehold to the Restoration & Preservation Slavendorp Savonet Foundation within two months of the court order.

It is a former slave village of about 3,200 square meters where the foundation wants to rebuild the old Savonet plantation. With the judge's ruling, the foundation will have access to all sixteen houses.
The interlocutory judgment shows that it was also the intention of the government that the foundation would get all slave houses on long lease. This did not happen before due to a family arrangement about a single cottage that had been in use by the family for a long time. A recent letter from the Minister of Transport, Traffic and Spatial Planning (VVRP) Charles Cooper describes that this is a UNESCO project.
The claim for the granting of the full leasehold was granted by the judge on Friday. According to the judge, the government has emphasized that it has no intention of opposing the Slavendorp Savonet project.
