Fuss about letter Prime Minister

Local | By Correspondent April 11, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas has changed his mind. He thinks that the COHO (Kingdom Act Caribbean Organ for Reform and Development) should be different. As it stands, the body undermines the countries' autonomy.

Pisas wrote this in a letter to State Secretary Alexandra van Huffelen. The cabinet fears that there will not be a majority in Parliament for the Kingdom Act. Pisas wants to convene a Kingdom conference to come up with a modified proposal.

Opposition party PAR does not approve of the Prime Minister's actions. On the other hand, Member of Parliament Gilbert Doran, of the same party as the prime minister applauds the initiative. Since the beginning Doran has expressed his disappointment when his political leader signed the COHO act.

There are political experts who say that Pisas had no option but to request the State Secretary to renegotiate the bill. If this bill continues the way it is now, it might mean the end of Pisas’ government since he won’t have a majority in parliament anymore.
