General public no third booster shot

Local | By Correspondent September 16, 2021

THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD - Booster vaccination for the general population against COVID-19 is not yet necessary. According to the Dutch Health Council, a third shot against the virus is recommended for a select group of people with a serious immune disorder. This also applies to the islands within the kingdom.

The Health Council has been examining the usefulness of the third corona jab in recent weeks. The Curaçao government also adopted earlier recommendations from the Health Council.

The third shot may offer better protection for patients with a severe immune disorder. From October, this group in Curaçao will receive an invitation for the third injection via the medical specialist in the hospital. The third shot is not necessary for the general population. According to the Health Council, the vaccines already provide sufficient protection, this also applies to the elderly.

The council indicates that the booster is a boost for people who have built up sufficient protection against corona after two shots, but whose immunity has decreased over time.
