Gerstenbluth; "Keep a cool head, no reason to panic"

Local | By Correspondent August 24, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - On Sunday Epidemiologist Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth gave a very extensive explanation about the current situation regarding the coronavirus in Curaçao.

He indicated that in the two new cases there is no link with the previous local infection that was detected last week. Therefore, the virus can spread quickly. “It is important that everyone follows up on the current measures before we enter a new phase where more severe measures are needed.”

“Keep a cool head, don't panic. Together we have it under control, you do not have to be afraid,” said Dr. Gerstenbluth.

There are several messages going around through social media. Dr. Gerstenbluth warned that these are fabricated and cause unnecessary commotion in the community. It is best for everyone to check the official channels for COVID-19 information.

“All infected people are in quarantine and so are the people who emerged from the contact investigation. They have tested negative so far. They may still be tested positive, but we do not know yet, so these people must be quarantined at home.

We will be monitoring for 14 days and if these people have no symptoms and test negative, the quarantine will end.

There are now 2 clusters known with local infections, which is why we must avoid and ban all gatherings where many people come close to each other. Pay attention to this yourself and be smart so that super spread can be prevented in Curaçao.”

Today at 11:30am there will be another press conference.
