WILLEMSTAD - Due to the lack of coordination between local demand and import of vegetables, farmers are regularly unable to sell their products. As a result, they even have to throw away their harvest. That is one of the problems facing the agricultural sector.

This is apparent from a tour of various farmers by the Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN). The minister himself was not present at the talks. She was represented by Cabinet Secretary Vanessa Elisa, Secretary General Sharlon Melfor and Sector Director Gabriel Murray.
The GMN ministry is therefore going to work on better coordination between local production of vegetables and the import of agricultural products in order to prevent waste.
The agricultural sector on Curaçao is very diverse. There are farms that use modern technology to grow crops. They also use less water. In addition, there are also traditional farmers who grow tomatoes, parsley and cucumber on a large scale.
The GMN Ministry will evaluate the situation of the local agricultural sector. The aim is to come up with solutions in due course.
