Government and refinery reach agreement to pay 5th tranche to former Isla workers

Local | By Correspondent August 8, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - All former refinery employees will once again receive a redundancy payment. The Government of Curaçao has recently agreed this with the owner of the refinery, Refineria di Korsou (RdK). This agreement is the fifth and last tranche that will be paid to the employees, which in total sums up to 12 million guilders (6 million dollars).

This decision was made after RdK’s management and the supervisory board, in consultation with the shareholders, agreed on the presented proposal. The intention is, just as the previous tranches, for RdK to recover the money which has already been paid and which will be paid now, by claiming the Venezuelan company and former operator PDVSA.

Nevertheless, either a positive or negative result of this endeavor does not influence the compensation to the former employees. This is their right, says the government.
