WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao government has decided not to hold a central year-end celebration for civil servants this year.
Vice Prime Minister Charles Cooper (MFK) confirmed that the original plan—similar in scale to last year’s large “Euphoria Garden” event—has been scrapped at the suggestion of Prime Minister Gilmar “Pik” Pisas (MFK).
Instead, the government will increase the year-end voucher for civil servants from 150 to 300 guilders.
In addition to the higher voucher, some civil servants will also receive a year-end bonus, though this applies only to certain salary scales.
Individual ministries may still organize smaller internal gatherings, provided their budgets allow it.
The decision comes amid heightened scrutiny of government spending and ongoing discussions about fairness in public-sector compensation.
