Local | By Correspondent December 4, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - Minister of Justice Quincy Girigorie wants to use the possibilities offered by the new emergency law this weekend. Yesterday the emergency law was passed. According to the minister of justice, the emergency law offers the government the right tools to more effectively monitor compliance with the COVID-19 measures. This means, among other things, that there will be more consequences for people who do not comply with the rules, such as the curfew and the ban on drinking in public. Girigorie said that he is happy that the law has been adopted by parliament.

The minister indicated that the law will enter into force as soon as it is published. According to him, that will soon happen on the government website. According to the minister, the Public Prosecution Service is already preparing a so-called fines list, which states which fines can be given for which violations of the COVID measures.
