Local | By Correspondent November 29, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The government has imposed an entry ban for travelers from South Africa because of the omicron variant of the coronavirus. The restrictions apply to travelers who have been to Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho, Namibia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe or South Africa in the past fourteen days.

The new variant of the coronavirus is currently causing new travel restrictions worldwide. The mutation was first discovered in South Africa. The World Health Organization (WHO) has labeled the new mutation as 'worrying'. The WHO reports that it is not yet clear whether the omicron variant is more contagious than other variants.

Since Sunday, there has been a negative travel advice for the countries in the south of Africa. An exception is made for people living on Curaçao, aircraft personnel, specialists in essential medical functions and patients from other countries in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom who need acute care.
