Government ordered to pay 2.3 million guilders in damages after wall collapse during carnival

Local | By Correspondent October 24, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The government has been ordered by the court to pay a compensation of 2.3 million guilders to the woman who was struck by a wall during carnival in 2014. This was the judgment on Monday.

The accident occurred during a carnival parade when the wall along the route collapsed and fell on the woman, causing her to become permanently paralyzed.

The court ruled that the government was aware of the danger of the wall collapsing but had not taken appropriate measures.

The woman had previously received advances totaling 500,000 guilders.
