Local | By Correspondent March 22, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The government has to pay more than 106,000 guilders to All Kind of Business N.V. The fireworks company missed five shows because fireworks were stolen from the gunpowder house at Playa Canoa.

The robbery took place in September 2019. A total of 400 to 500 kilograms of fireworks were stolen. The company filed a claim for five missed shows and also had to give discounts nine times due to a shortage of fireworks.

The judge already ruled in the case in 2021. At the time, All Kind of Business N.V. had to submit more evidence to demonstrate the lost income. According to the documents that have now been submitted, a discount of 24,600 guilders has been given and 79,500 guilders has been lost due to the canceled shows.

It is not the first time that the government has had to pay a claim for compensation for a fireworks robbery. According to Minister Charles Cooper of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning (VVRP), these claims cost the government a lot of money. He states that in the future owners will have to find a place for storage themselves and take their own safety measures.
