Local | By Correspondent March 12, 2019

WILLEMSTAD - In his dissertation in Parliament, the Minister of Finance Kenneth Gijsbertha declared that the government will deal with several subsidized organizations that do not adhere to the law. The law stipulates that when an organization receives funds from the government in the form of a subsidy, the must submit a financial report each year.

In its efforts to balance the budget, the government has been advised to tackle this issue. The government could reduce its spending considerably if it stops subsidizing these organizations.

Also several of these organizations perform tasks that are the responsibility of the government. There are already departments that are doing these works and it is not necessary to spend extra money for the same work that is being done, said the Minister.

According to the minister, the government could cut spending up to 5% once they take action to stop subsidizing these organizations.
