WILLEMSTAD - The Governor of Curaçao, Mrs. L.A. George-Wout, on 20, 22 and 23 March, has consulted the vice-chairman of the Advisory Board, the chairman of Parliament, the outgoing Prime Minister, the Minister of State, a delegation from the Social Economic Council (SER), a delegation from the Council of Churches and the party leaders of the political parties that have won one or more seats in Parliament. This round of consultation is in connection with the formation of a new cabinet.

Based on the recommendations issued, the Governor had a meeting on 23 March with the informateurs, Messrs. R.S.J. Martha and Ch. Peterson. The Governor has asked both gentlemen to investigate the possibility of forming a cabinet of which the composition does justice to the election results.
Curaçao is facing major challenges, especially regarding poverty reduction, the recovery of public finances, economic development, tackling backlog in education, improving healthcare, tackling crime and the recovery of infrastructure. Relations in the country itself and with the other countries of the Kingdom require a clear course and constructive dialogue. It is also important that the policy pursued by the government contributes to stability and tranquility in society, as well as to widely supported trust in the administration, and is based on mutual respect.
It is for this reason that the Governor has requested Messrs. Martha and Peterson, in the light of the above, to quickly investigate which political parties with one or more seats in Parliament are prepared to enter into a cooperation based on a common vision on tackling the challenges our country faces.
This inquiry should lead to the formation of a cabinet that:
- relies on a broad majority in the Parliament of Curaçao;
- demonstrates a sense of urgency in tackling the challenges that Curaçao faces.
The Governor has requested both informants to report on their findings by April 6, 2021 and to submit an interim report on the progress of their information work by March 30, 2021.
