WILLEMSTAD – On Tuesday, 2 December 2025, Ms. Zaira Barriento of the Overseas Support Team (OTB) paid a working visit to the Governor of Curaçao, His Excellency Mauritsz de Kort. Ms. Barriento was accompanied by Ms. Joke Voskamp from the Dutch Ministry of Finance and Ms. Maaike Umbelino, representative for the BES islands. During the meeting, Ms. Barriento and Ms. Voskamp briefed the Governor on the OTB’s ongoing support for parents on the islands who were affected by the Dutch childcare benefits scandal.
The OTB team works to assist victims of the benefits affair living outside the European Netherlands, offering direct guidance tailored to each family's needs. According to the team, more than 250 families on Curaçao have already received support, along with more than 35 on the BES islands, over 15 on Aruba, and 10 on Sint Maarten.
Through personal attention, empathy, and customized assistance, the OTB helps parents rebuild their lives—whether through practical support, navigating administrative processes, or helping restore a sense of stability, trust, and future perspective.
