WILLEMSTAD - “Open the gym!” Is the appeal of a group of 18 Curaçao gym owners in a letter to the government. The group feels abandoned by the government and warns that the survival of the schools is at stake.
At the initiative of Ivan de Windt of 5 triple 9 Fitness, several gym owners came together via Zoom after last Monday's press conference to "jointly raise the alarm".
"Before it's too late," the owners write. During the press conference, it appeared that despite the series of new relaxations, the gyms still have to keep their doors closed. But the survival of the schools, and with it the many jobs, is at stake, the group warns. “We need to be able to run at full capacity quickly to ensure our survival,” says one of the owners.
The gyms are convinced that they can reopen in a safe and responsible manner. They indicate that practically all necessary measures have already been taken. The group therefore wants to talk to the government and has sent an official letter. Initiator De Windt ultimately wants to form a speech organ that represents the interests of all gyms.
