WILLEMSTAD - The Ministry of SOAW will also continue the hot meals project of the Red Cross Curaçao. As of 1 May, the Red Cross food aid program came into the hands of the ministry, which now includes the provision of hot meals.
The Ministry of Social Development, Welfare and Sport (SOAW) recently announced this. SOAW will now provide further information about this to the families who until recently received hot meals from the Red Cross. The meal project will be evaluated in the next trajectory phase.
The takeover of food aid from the Red Cross Curaçao by the local government is an agreement from the Covid food aid program, as laid down in the Landspakket (Country Package). The Red Cross has been able to provide aid to almost 70,000 Curaçaoans in the past year. From March 2020 to February this year, a total of more than 135,000 hot meals were provided.
SOAW also reports that the new registration for the e-vouchers is going well. On May 6, the government announced that anyone who has an e-voucher (food payment card) from the Red Cross must re-register with SOAW in order to continue to receive support.
