WILLEMSTAD - CEO of the Curaçao Hotel and Tourism Association (CHATA) Miles Mercera confirmed that hotel occupancy is currently 10 to 15 percent.
Earlier this week, it was announced that around 3,000 tourists have come to Curaçao since the borders reopened. This was also to be expected, according to Mercera. The hotel occupancy has been disappointing, according to CHATA, the organization previously hoped for an occupancy of 25 percent, but this was partly due to cancellations after the June 24 riots, by about half.
Many travelers also came mainly for family visits and therefore do not use the hotels. Mercera looks more optimistic at the rest of the year:
"For the long term, we are happy with the bookings from November, which we see in both the flights and in the hotel sector, this also applies to the summer of next year." But next month CHATA also expects better figures than those of July.
