WILLEMSTAD - Lawyer Lizaima da Costa Gomez accuses the prison of a “toko den toko”, which means conducting an illegal business in a legitimate business. According to the lawyer, the perpetrators are making a profit on the backs of prisoners.
Products that the prisoners buy are much more expensive than in the store. The food that is being served to the prisoners is also unhealthy or even of poor quality. Prisoners feel like they get the worst of what the supermarket supplies. And the prison plays a double role in this.
The lawyer has now sent a letter to the prison, the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Economic Affairs and the Health Inspectorate.
