WILLEMSTAD - Unemployment is expected to rise by 24.3 percent, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). According to the government, this is similar to the numbers published by the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS).
Due to the effects of Covid-19, the CBCS has calculated that economic growth would contribute 0.1 percent in 2021 and 6.2 percent next year. Curaçao would be in the recovery phase according to the government.
The Curaçao economy has been experiencing a persistent contraction for years. In 2021 and 2022, the pandemic had a disastrous effect on the tourism-dependent local economy.
