Important witness in Schotte’s case to be heard in Rome

Local | By Correspondent September 5, 2019

WILLEMSTAD - A recently issued decision in relation to the Babel case found that Roberto Pellicano, the Italian prosecutor in Cremona, was to be heard as a witness at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome.

Although the verdict in the Babel case by Gerrit Schotte and his partner Cicely van der Dijs is irrevocable, by order of 28 February 2019 the court granted the request to hear Pellicano as a witness. This hearing of witnesses was only to take place on 6 June this year, but Pellicano did not want to make a statement via video connection. That is why he is now being heard on location in Rome. It is not known exactly when this hearing will take place.

With the interrogation, Schotte wants to "prove" that (members of) the Curaçao Public Prosecution Service have not acted appropriately, as well as "that a prominent member of the Public Prosecution Service (OM) at that time drew up an official report in violation of the truth, and has not declared truthfully to the examining magistrate '. And that is why the Babel investigation according to Schotte - who has been convicted of civil service bribery, forgery of documents and money laundering - was started under false pretenses.
