Inmates at Curaçao Detention Center Receive Certificates and Diplomas for Completed Training Programs

WILLEMSTAD – A large group of inmates at the Sentro di Detenshon i Korekshon Kòrsou (SDKK) received certificates and diplomas on Thursday, December 18, marking the successful completion of various courses and training programs followed throughout 2025.

The inmates participated in a wide range of vocational courses, including Interior Cleaning, Refrigeration Technology, and Kitchen Assistant training. In addition, participants earned diplomas from OSBOD special vocational education programs at levels one and two in fields such as Carpentry, Painting, Garment Production, and Automotive Technology.

Other participants received certificates in Upholstery, as well as for a Agricultural training program developed in cooperation with AVB and Soltuna.

Encouragement From Officials

During the ceremony, speeches were delivered by Deputy Director Anthony Hasselmeijer, OSBOD Director Ms. Zwerwer, and Head of OVT Sharissa Llewelyn, who all emphasized the importance of education and skills development as part of rehabilitation.

Minister of Justice Shalten Hato congratulated the participants and stressed that the knowledge and skills they have acquired can play a crucial role in building a better future after their release.

Family and Community Presence

The ceremony was attended by SDKK staff, family members, and invited guests, creating a supportive atmosphere for the graduates. After the formal program, attendees had the opportunity to personally congratulate the participants on their achievements.

The management of SDKK expressed strong satisfaction with the results achieved in 2025, highlighting the completion of these courses as an important step in promoting rehabilitation, reintegration, and personal development among the inmate population.
