Investigation into conduct police commissioner completed

Local | By Correspondent December 30, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - On the evening of September 4, Ilario, commissioner of the Police Corps (KPC), performed in two hotels with a local music group. Video footage of these performances surfaced on social media, causing a stir in the community. There were questions about whether he had complied with the Covid measures and whether the hotels had a permit for this. An international band also performed at one of the hotels. On September 10, he was suspended by the Minister of Justice and was denied entry. Given the position of Mr. Ilario within the Corps, the Attorney General of the Public Prosecution Service has ordered a fact-finding investigation by the national investigation team Landsrecherche.

The investigation by the Landsrecherche has shown that it has not been established that Ilario violated corona measures during both his appearances. It has also been found that when a hotel organizes an activity itself, no additional or separate permit is required for performances by local music groups because they have hotel and catering permits that make this possible. Finally, the investigation revealed that Ilario was not part of the international band.

The fact-finding investigation has been completed and there will be no criminal prosecution. It is the minister who can determine whether Ilario can resume his duties at the KPC.
