WILLEMSTAD - Minister of Economic Development who is also politically responsible for the utility company Aqualectra, Dr. Steven Martina wants an investigation into whether Curaçao may have fallen victim to "cybercrime".
The Minister of Economic Development said this yesterday during a government press conference about last week's three blackouts.
Martina has already announced an investigation into the cause of the long power cuts. But during the press conference, he also said emphatically that in other countries, electricity companies that use the same high-quality equipment as Aqualectra have experienced cyber-attacks. That is why he wants investigation to be done in Curaçao as well.
Martina said that specific attention should be paid to that possibility during the announced investigation. The MAN politician said yesterday that everything must be investigated so that measures can be taken afterwards.
Between Monday and Sunday last week, there was no electricity in Curaçao for more than 40 hours. That is "unprecedented" according to Martina.
