WILLEMSTAD - There is indeed investment in the refinery. Refineria Isla thereby contradicts Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath who in a press conference last week claimed that the Venezuelan subsidiary company is not investing in the refinery. Rhuggenaath then said that since 2017 no money has been invested into maintenance.
The Isla says it has invested more than 237 million in maintenance of the installations in 2017 and 2018, spokesperson Earl Balborda says.
The refinery is in better condition than is said, and acquisition candidate Klesch Group has confirmed this, according to Balborda.
Last weekend the CRU came to a standstill again, causing production to stop in two so-called "plants".
