It is a criminal offense to distribute nude photos without permission

WILLEMSTAD - The police are receiving more and more reports about the unauthorized distribution of nude photos and videos with sexual acts. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) points out that the distribution of pornographic images is a criminal offense. The judge can even impose a prison sentence for it.

Posting photos and videos of a pornographic nature on social media after, for example, a broken love affair is increasingly common. The OM says it is clear that this is a huge invasion of the victim's privacy.

The OM wants to put a stop to these practices and this month brought a case to court in which a nude photo was sent via social media to the employer, colleagues, and friends of the victim. The suspect has been sentenced to a shared conditional and unconditional imprisonment for this, plus community service.

The OM warns people to be careful when taking such photos. The Public Prosecution says it will continue to work to bring these criminal offenses to court.
