JA21 wants to send asylum seekers to Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent May 23, 2022

THE HAGUE - The Dutch party JA21 proposes that the Netherlands should move the asylum procedure for asylum seekers from safe countries to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. This was reported by the Dutch newspaper Telegraaf.

This would concern independent countries within the Kingdom, such as the CAS islands, Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten. The party succeeds in the proposal Denmark and the United Kingdom, which want to move the asylum procedure to Rwanda. Reception of refugees from the Caribbean would be possible according to Dutch legislation.

In the coalition agreement, the government intends to seek 'migration partnerships with third countries', in order to manage migration flows, among other things. Because this has not yet been worked on, JA21 is now making this proposal. The PVV and the VVD are also in favor of the migration deals.
