Jamaloodin: "I am innocent!"

Local | By Correspondent January 20, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Former Finance Minister George Jamaloodin again denied that he was involved in the murder of the popular politician and Member of Parliament Helmin Wiels on May 5, 2013. That happened on Monday during the first day of the appeal in the Maximus case. Jamaloodin was previously sentenced to 28 years in prison, including for involvement in masterminding the Wiels assassination.

He told the judge at the beginning of the two-week court sessions that he did not know who was behind the murder.

The Maximus case is being held in the Suffisant Navy Barracks under strict measures. This has to do with both the corona measures and the sensitivity of the case. For example, there is a drone ban for the area around the naval barracks.

The court sessions will continue today.
