WILLEMSTAD - Javier Silvania (MFK), the former Minister of Finance and Health, was officially sworn in on Wednesday by the Governor of Curaçao as a new Member of Parliament. Silvania will continue his political work within the MFK party, now from a legislative seat.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, Silvania acknowledged that there are still “wounds within the party that must heal,” emphasizing the need for dialogue and unity. He expressed gratitude for the continued support of his party, stating that he now intends to represent the 18,000 voters who supported him during the last election.
Silvania’s resignation as minister came after the leak of an audio recording capturing a heated argument between him and Alfonso Trona, head of the Tax Receiver’s Office. In the recording, Silvania accused Trona of corruption and misuse of authority.
Subsequent audits by the Government Audit Bureau (SOAB) and ongoing investigations reportedly confirmed that Trona bypassed tax collection procedures, leading to the disappearance of millions in public funds.
Prime Minister Gilmar “Pik” Pisas (MFK) stated that Silvania’s departure from the Cabinet was not directly related to the public altercation, but rather to the investigation initiated afterward by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM).
With his return to Parliament, Silvania is expected to remain a prominent and outspoken figure within Curaçao’s political landscape, especially on issues of governance, fiscal transparency, and integrity in public office.
