JJIC reports sexual abuse

Local | By Correspondent February 1, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The board of the Juvenile Detention Center Curaçao (JJIC) has reported sexual child abuse. The reason is a video in which an underage client has sex. According to the client, she was sexually assaulted. She reported this to the juvenile detention center.

This month, several sex videos of school-aged youths circulated on social media. A client of JJIC (formerly GOG) was also filmed having intercourse.

In a press release, JJIC says that the institute always stands up for the rights and protection of children and young people in the institute. Because the victim is a minor, JJIC takes the privacy of the client into account.

Combating child pornography and the underlying sexual abuse is a priority of the Public Prosecution Service (OM). The emphasis is not only on tracing the downloaders and the distributors, but the Public Prosecution Service also focuses on the victim.

According to the police, the distribution of child pornography is a growing problem in Curaçao. The police recently made an urgent appeal not to forward the images, but to delete them immediately.
