WILLEMSTAD - The authorities are obligated to investigate whether someone is rightly seeking political asylum.
That is the verdict of the judge in a case filed by a Venezuelan refugee. Until now, Venezuelans have been expelled if they do not immediately invoke article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights when they are arrested.
If they do that later, the Curaçao government will no longer be interested. According to the judge, this is contrary to human rights.
