THE HAGUE - Cross-border crime in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom is also a cause for concern for the Netherlands. The connections between the parts of the Kingdom represent an increased risk for the transit of contraband, including weapons and drugs, from the Caribbean to Europe.
Concerns about this recently expressed by Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb are shared by Undersecretary of the Interior and Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops.
This is apparent from his answer to questions from the D66 party in the Dutch Parliament about the impact of the security situation in Curaçao for the Netherlands. The so-called baseline initiative for strengthening the air and sea borders is therefore important.
Knops refers to the recently made agreements in the Judicial Four-Party Consultation (JVO).
