WILLEMSTAD - The talks that the Undersecretary of Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops has had in Willemstad in recent days have not yet led to an agreement. “We are waiting for a letter in which the Pisas cabinet formally reaffirms its support for the COHO agreements and explains the position taken by parliament in more detail,” said Knops.
Knops showed himself optimistic during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas. He expressed the expectation that an agreement will be reached in the short term and that liquidity support can be resumed.
In the coming weeks, it should become clear whether the countries will succeed in agreeing on amendments to the draft Consensus Kingdom Act for the establishment of the Caribbean Reform and Development Agency. Knops stated that he has submitted a compromise in response to the criticism of the Council of State and that he expects the countries to be prepared to do their part.
