Large-scale hydroponics project on Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent September 8, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - A new hydroponics project should provide Curaçao with more affordable and organic vegetables and lettuce. That's what the initiator of 'Bon Hydroponics' Mariëlle Leo announced to the media.

Bon Hydroponics is an initiative that should yield ten percent of the current import of leaf lettuce on the island. The plan is to start organically growing leafy vegetables and herbs on deepwater hydroponics in a 5,000 m2 greenhouse complex. These are large containers of water that do not evaporate due to the cover of the greenhouses.

Leo explains that it uses a growing system that has already proven its effectiveness in tropical areas where water is scarce. When the project can start depends on how quickly Bon Hydroponics has found enough investors.
