Law regarding children’s ombudsman ready for treatment

WILLEMSTAD - The national ordinance for the Ombudsman for Children is ready for debate in a public meeting of Parliament. The Central Committee of Parliament made that decision yesterday. In addition, the appointment of a special Children's Ombudsman has come closer. For a long time, various organizations have asked for the installation of an ombudsman, especially for children. According to sources close to the process, the bill assumes that the current law will be amended, so that there is the option of introducing a Children's Ombudsman in Curaçao.

Various tasks fall under the duties of the Ombudsman for Children. Including: promoting that the rights of young people are respected by administrative bodies. Furthermore, information should be provided on the rights of young people and solicited, and unsolicited advice can be given on legislation and policies relating to young people.
